Шотландия). Главный и неприятный для археологов казус состоял в том, что все в этом поселении в недрах одного из прибрежных холмов – от каменной кладки стен и кроватей до потолков и дверных проемов – было рассчитано на людей ростом не более одного метра! Выяснилось, что поселение строилось намеренно как подземное сооружение. На некоторых каменных предметах (в т. ч. кроватях) были обнаружены загадочные надписи на неизвестном языке. Доказательством того, что поселение в Скара Брэ не являлось ритуальным муляжом, служит «изощренная дренажная система, позволяющая справлять естественные потребности, находясь в стенах поселения», а также аналогичные постройки в соседнем Барнхаузе и Нэп-оф-Хауаре.
